With that in mind, Ski Canada magazine ranked resorts according to how much vertical you get for your lift-ticket dollar. The calculation involves dividing the vertical drop by the cost of a lift ticket to get a “most vertical-per-dollar ratio.”
The top 10 in Canada are all in the West.
No. 1 on the list is Whistler-Blackcomb, B.C., with a ratio of 23.3 metres per dollar (1,609 metres of vertical and a $69 lift ticket).
In second place is Kicking Horse, B.C., at 22.1 metres per dollar (1,260 metres vertical, $57 ticket).
Panorama, B.C., is third with 20.7 (1,220 metres, $59)
Fourth is Red Mountain, B.C., at 18.5 (887 metres, $48), followed by fifth-place Castle Mountain, Alta., at 18 (863 metres, $48).
The rest of the top 10 in order:
Sunshine, Alta., 17 (1,070 metres, $62.62); Marmot Basin, Alta., 16.6 (914 metres, $55.14); Lake Louise, Alta., 16.5 (991 metres, $60); Powder King, B.C., 16 (640 metres, $40); and Nakiska, Alta., 16 (735 metres, $46).
Ski Canada says prices were based on a regularly priced adult single-day lift ticket on a weekend in mid-January.
